Piazza Tsim Sha Tsui

Despite the competition brief requiring a two-dimensional landscape and paving design, our concept calls for a green, multi-function open space at the heart of Hong Kong. A series of folded planes rises gently from the existing ground level, housing a Heritage Path and convenience retail below it, and a new Viewing Point of Hong Kong Island and the historic Bell Tower above. A special, site-cast concrete panel with translucent inserts, giving shadows of tree foliage, blurs the line between the natural and the man-made; a year-round activity schedule is proposed to turn this into a vibrant spot for tourists and local alike.
