a study of Pontian composition and precision.
A unique artwork depicting the landscape of a wine region welcomes guests into an intimate space. The art piece is created by abstracting an original image into lines and dots, and using precision milling on high-gloss lacquer panels to give the feature wall an unusual sense of depth.
“In designing the flagship store, we devised a set of codes that are influenced by Gio Ponti’s work and our interpretation of a contemporary wine retail experience.”
With a palette of black, grey and gold, the interior is direct and warm. Highly-crafted wine cabinets are placed like furniture pieces against a slightly distressed background of painted walls.
A troweled concrete floor with marble insets depicting a world map (and resembles grape vines) completes the overall ambience of the store.
The name “Ponti Wine Cellars” is derived from the famed Italian architect and designer, Gio Ponti. The storefront is a study in Pontian compositions, using black steel in triangles and parallelograms, perforated to reveal bright bronze from behind. The bespoke entrance door handles inspired by wine bottles and a pair of bright bronze display cabinets give a tactile and crafted impression of the brand.
