CHO/ICES

We feel alive through our interactions with the world. Whether life is a singular runway driven by destiny, or a series of endless, forking mountain trails, we live everyday through the paths we choose. Time does not wait: there is a finite number of chances to decide what to do, whether it’s with our lives or with the next hour. We’re so used to making choices that sometimes it feels like a kind of reflex action; worse, we get so numbed and begin thinking that we don’t have a choice. But over time, the choices we make without making – natural, consistent, even habitual decisions & actions – will weave into a tapestry of our lives. Every time the shutter button is pressed, the scene, the subject, light & shadow, the composition, & the story thus captured, represent a series of gives & takes. Curated by Anothermountainman Stanley Wong and presented as a continuous ribbon, CHO/CES is a collection of over 90 black and white photographs taken over 15 years, expressing a deep compassion for life in 8 distinct chapters.
